Read Alouds - Bambi

We all know the story of Bambi from watching the Disney movie, but the evocative language in the original story by Felix Salton is some of the best I have ever read.

My children (and myself!) have been mesmerised by the vivid descriptive passages and completely absorbing characterizations. My eldest son's copybook is full of favourite passages from this book, and opportunities to model beautiful descriptive writing are endless.

To teach how to magnificently 'set the scene' or 'paint a picture' with words, look no further than the opening paragraphs of chapter 1. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Excellent descriptive writing model

I agree totally, Joanne.
The descriptive writing is excellent and that is exactly why I have included an excerpt from Bambi in my Ebook, Teaching Descriptive Writing.
I use it as one of the models of literature which we discuss before we create our own descriptive writing piece.

My children have also enjoyed writing parts from Bambi into their Writing Treasure.

I am glad your children enjoyed it so much!
