The Peterson Bunch

by Kris Peterson
(Juneau, Alaska)

What is a schedule? The closest we have come to a schedule is a rhythm and it often beats like a really loud drum.

Our bunch consists of three boys. Our oldest who is ten going on twenty. Our first youngest who just turned nine. And the new youngest who is turning three way to soon. Of course there is Mom, me, and Dad.

We always start our day with morning responsibilities. You know getting dressed, making beds, eating. When we have finished then we start on Bible reading. First we do a poem with my toddler. We actually put action movements the poem and dance around. He loves it and it helps them remember the poem. That takes about a half hour. We are doing some exercise for 5 to 10 minutes to get the blood moving and have a little fun before we sit and do math.

Then we work on our topic which is currently Geology. After that we do various activities each day. One day we will do art, then crafts, music etc.
I have to be honest, at this time we are getting through to Math, and squeezing in the other things as we go along.

By the end of our day I am making dinner and getting ready for work. It get kind of hectic. When I come home from work I read a story to them. It is usually a classic or something I really wanted to read : )

And then off to sleep.

That's our day!

Is this like a unit study?
by: Anonymous

Hi Peterson Bunch.
Thanks for sharing your schedule. When you write that you are currently studying Geology - do you study it as a unit study and focus on different aspects each day?
It sounds interesting. Can you tell us some more?
I'd love to see a photo of your bunch in Alaska!
