To homeschool or not?

by Shannon
(Pa)

I have three kids all in a small lab school on campus of a local university within our community...grades 1st, 3rd, and 5th. We did public school briefly, catholic school and I also homeschooled briefly, about 6 months when my son was in 2nd grade....then they started at the lab school the following school year.

The majority of the education is great. They now have their friends, and they do love school. But having them away for 7 hours a day seems so long. Our school district has adopted this "Everyday Math" program out of Chicago University and it is so confusing for the kids and there is no repetition... my daughter, who math comes naturally to, even is struggling with the methods that are being taught.

I feel that I could do better here at home, but do I completely take them from what they know or give them the choice to stay at their school. I also try to 'fill in the gaps' at home for what I feel isn't being covered in school, but it seems hard timewise.

If I do decide to homeschool how does that work when your child applies for college? Can they choose to go wherever? Please, I would appreciate any thoughts or input. Thank you.
